Dear TT Skill Group Members,

We are thrilled to share a momentous achievement within our community that fills us with pride and admiration. Our esteemed lead instructor Dickson Yeo has recently been honored with the prestigious “Certificate of Master Trainer” in Cold Chain Logistics by the AFFA Logistics Institute. This recognition serves as a testament to his dedication and continuous pursuit of excellence.

The path to mastery was marked by invaluable learning experiences, notably during a knowledge-sharing session led by Khun Somsak Wisetruangrot, Chairman of the AFFA Logistics Institute. In July 2023, Dickson Yeo had the privilege of delving into cold chain logistics best practices across Japan-ASEAN countries, alongside 67 other logistics enthusiasts from the ASEAN region.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA) and The Logistics Academy (TLA) for nominating our instructor for this enriching opportunity. Special appreciation is also owed to Mr. Stanley Lim, former Chairman of SLA, whose mentorship and vast network have played a pivotal role in shaping our instructor’s journey.

Furthermore, our lead instructor Mr. Dickson Yeo is committed to sharing his insights with fellow logistics professionals to enhance their expertise in cold chain logistics through his knowledge. With a focus on implementing Cold Chain Standards and warehouse automation, he aspires to contribute to the optimization of frozen warehouses and distribution centers. By imparting their expertise in cold chain logistics and standards, as well as logistics automation, Mr.Dickson aims to inspire and empower future leaders in the industry.

We congratulate our esteemed instructor on this remarkable achievement and commend their unwavering commitment to excellence in logistics education. Let us continue to support and uplift each other as we strive for continual growth and advancement in our field.

Driven by government initiatives and economic growth, India’s logistics sector is set for significant expansion, projected to create 10 million jobs by 2027, according to a recent report.

Benefiting from recent policy reforms like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and robust production figures, coupled with changing consumption patterns and innovative business models like 3PL (Third-Party Logistics), India’s logistics industry is on a growth trajectory. The sector, growing at 12% annually, is anticipated to witness substantial job creation over the next five years.

Balasubramanian A, Vice President and Business Head at TeamLease Services, commented on the emerging landscape, noting a surge in both production and consumption leading to increased demand for logistics services such as transportation, warehousing, and distribution.

Economic shifts like rising disposable incomes and rural demand are driving a nationwide consumption surge, creating opportunities in roles like supply chain managers, logistics specialists, and warehousing managers.
Moreover, as logistics hubs evolve into advanced facilities, the industry is embracing automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) for efficient demand forecasting and supply chain management.”

In response to growing concerns about carbon emissions in global supply chains, companies are turning to automation technologies to enhance sustainability efforts. By integrating automation into core processes, businesses can improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impacts.

Supply chain sustainability focuses on boosting business efficiency while minimizing environmental footprints. It involves mapping the entire ecosystem and adopting eco-conscious practices to mitigate carbon emissions and ecological damage.

Automation’s Role in Driving Supply Chain Sustainability

Carbon-Neutral Transportation: Electric self-driving trucks and drones reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional vehicles.

Route Optimization: AI-driven tools minimize delivery times and fuel consumption, reducing the carbon footprint of transportation.

Waste Reduction: IoT sensors provide real-time insights throughout the supply chain, minimizing waste generation and environmental harm.

Dynamic Production: Machine learning forecasts demand patterns, enabling adaptive production strategies that optimize resource utilization and reduce wastage.

Energy-Saving Integrations: AI-powered smart sensors optimize energy usage, reducing environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency.

Process Automation: Automating workflows minimizes errors, streamlines operations, and promotes sustainability across the value chain.

Material Handling: IoT systems equipped with AI sensors enhance material handling safety, ensuring environmental protection and regulatory compliance.

Empowering Consumers for Sustainable Choices

With heightened environmental awareness, sustainable supply chains are imperative. Consumers play a vital role in driving demand for sustainable products and practices.

In conclusion, automation technologies are key to unlocking the full potential of sustainable supply chains, fostering efficiency, environmental responsibility, and corporate stewardship.”

India is striving to improve its position on the International Logistics Performance Index (LPI) to boost its global logistics reputation. Currently ranked 38th in the LPI 2023, India has progressed from its previous 44th spot. However, concerns linger about the index’s accuracy, prompting the Indian government to advocate for a more objective assessment based on concrete data.

The World Bank, responsible for the index, is shifting towards a data-driven approach to ensure fairness. Dr. Surendra Ahirwar from the DPIIT highlighted India’s logistics costs, estimated at 7.8% to 8.9% of GDP, in line with global standards. He discussed initiatives like ULIP and Cargo Tracking App to streamline logistics and stressed the need for cost optimization while ensuring industry viability.

Dr. Ahirwar emphasized sustainable logistics development and expressed confidence in India’s potential in the global supply chain. Collaborative efforts between the government, industry, and international partners are expected to reshape India’s logistics landscape.”
